the susprise workshop

This weekend I've got a little surprise. My friend asked me to lead a workshop for children about shadow theatre. He couldn't and needed a substitute. Of course I took over and it was so much fun! Unfortunately we only had one hour, but still we were able to make simple puppets, and experiment a little bit with the light.
The kids loved it. Especially the magic part of the shadows getting alive. They were focused and really into it. The girls prepared a story inspired by a short shadow theatre show, they've seen before the workshop. The boys brought up to the stage almost compleet Star Wars saga:)
I enjoyed it very much, and here are some results. Enjoy it too!

 one rainy afternoon
or how to survive belgian rain :)

There's no better rainy view than the one through my 'see through' umbrella.
No better feeling than dry feet in a pair of funky rubber boots.
And last but not least, this waterproof bag already saved many thigs from getting wet.
It just confuses me, that I don't see the locals being so perfectly rain protected:)

I wish everyone a good rainy day!

puppet of the week

Duda Paiva and his horse - a legpuppet! One year ago in Ostrava, Czech Republic, Spectaculo Interesse Festival. Duda Paiva is not only great puppeteer, but also a dancer, so the animation of this laughing horse was really 'spectacular'. Eventhough this wasn't the main character of the show, for me it was the best idea.
What puppets do you prefer? Stringpuppets? Handpuppets? Legpuppets?

(Duda Paiva Company is mainly active in Netherlands. Worth seeing!!)

a punch for friday or puppets in shopping centres

Did it already happen to you? You were just walking down the shopping mall and all of a sudden a creapy and loud little hunchback guy shouts at you? With a strange voice? Like he would swallow a swazzle* ?

During the Festival of puppet theatre here in Gent, some shows were located in a main shopping centre downtown. With Punch & Judy by a duo from France Le Clou et l'Aiguille it worked out perfectly! People stopped shopping for a while and watched him mince his wife and baby. Ah, what a lovely shopping afternoon... :)

and this is swazzle *

typewriter

This is my new - old typewriter! :) It's not from a fleamarket. It's from my dad's old office. I typed the headline above with it. It feels really real to hit the keys. Enjoying the little "ting" at the end of the page too. I'm going to type and type and type and bring some interesting puppetry to you very soon!!
